Our story

• As a software engineer

  at one of the UK's largest media companies, my work involved long hours in front of the screen. Although I enjoyed my job, it was tiring, and I craved doing something non-digital for relaxation after work, something exciting to break the routine.

• During the work-week

  my go-to hobby or form of relaxation was watching movies or travel documentaries. I loved getting lost in stories around the world. I was particularly captivated by the cuisine, traditions, and crafts of different cultures. While these documentaries provided a temporary escape, I would have liked a more immersive and tangible experience, something to help me disconnect from screens and find a sense of adventure.

• One Friday evening

  inspired by a documentary on Japan, I decided to create a Japanese-themed night for my boyfriend and me. I cooked a traditional Japanese meal, we did Japanese crafts, tasted various Japanese snacks, and listened to Japanese music. We felt transported to Tokyo, and that entire evening was a transformative experience, providing a sense of escape and adventure without living the house. As we immersed ourselves in the activities, I realized how powerful these cultural escapes could be.

  It took a lot of time to research, source authentic ingredients and materials, and plan everything out. I often found myself overwhelmed, wishing there was an easier way to enjoy these cultural adventures without all the hassle.
